It all started on a private jet...

searching foreign cities for florists at odd hours of the day or with little to no notice. Part of my job as a corporate flight attendant is to have beautiful flowers on the plane for my guests. I often struggled finding flowers that are exactly what I wanted; exquisite, unique, elegant. After many disappointing arrangements, I started taking matters in my own hands; sourcing flowers, getting creative and teaching myself ‘flowers’. I quickly discovered a passion that allows me to be creative and intentional around an experience I was trying to create. My friends, clients and coworkers started commenting on my work and encouraged me to pursue flowers beyond the private jet.

In 2020, I started having pop up events around holidays, followed by corporate events, everyday arrangements and funerals. My vision starts when I walk into the flower market and am moved by the flowers that surround me. There is a feeling you get when you see certain flowers; their colors, details and movement. Flowers create a feeling when they are received and with every arrangement I make, my goal is to create something beautiful yet unique, using flowers that you don’t see every day.

I love playing with flowers, thinking outside the box, being bold, creating that WOW factor. Flowers are beautiful on their own, but there is something about curating a collection of flowers that creates a feeling you simply can’t explain.

Where did the name MelRose come from?

One of my pilots came up with the name ‘MelRose’ when we were on a trip. Originally I called my floral business ‘Flora’ but he said “you’re Mel and a rose is a flower, you should be "MelRose”. I loved it and it felt right, so here we are, MelRose Floral Design from San Diego, CA.
